Guidelines 

 

Participating Schools


Must register their intent to send students to the regional science fair by filling out and sending the School Registration Form to the Center by Jan 20, 2006.
Must fill out the Student Registration Form for each student who is elligible to attend the science fair and send it to the Center as soon as possible after the school’s fair, but  no later than March 17, 2006.

 

Participants


Must be in the 4th – 12th grades
Must be the highest scoring student of their grade level in the school’s science fair.
Must be from any county in Region 8 and, Elliott, Johnson, Lawrence, Martin, Menifee, and Morgan counties in Region 7.

Can be from any public or private school or home school group.

 

Projects


Must be scientific investigations. Collections, demonstrations, models, inventions, and product comparisons are not eligible.
Must be the work of a single student. A student may enter only one project in the science fair.
Indicating the direct assistance of individuals other than the student will be disqualified by the judges. Teachers, parents, or other persons may advise and provide technical assistance, but  may not be involved in the actual work of the project.
Are prohibited from using vertebrate animals in experiments that would result in injury, discomfort or death of the organism.

 

Exhibits


Must fit within a space of 48 inches wide, 30 inches deep, and 108 inches high.
Must be free-standing with their own means of support. Only table space will be provided at the fair.

May not include under any circumstances (use drawings or photographs instead):

            live animals                                                  

            open flames

            dangerous chemicals                                 

            microbial cultures

            preserved vertebrate or parts                    

            fungi 

            live pathogens

            any other material hazardous to public display

 

Judging

   ►Reports and journals should be available for examination by the judges.

   ►Students must be present for the judging. All students should be able to explain their project in an oral interview.

   ►Projects at each grade level will be judged separately. Awards are given according to the judges’ evaluation of each project. The judges’ decision is final.
